Conflicting writings on the number of interpreters.
In passage 1 below, Shoghi Effendi says, "There are no other Interpreters whatsoever"
other than Abdu'l-Baha and himself; which contradicts the writings of
Baha'u'llah and other writings of Shoghi Effendi. In passage 2, Shoghi
Effendi makes four references to "Guardians" [plural],
which, at the time, indicated there would be more than one Guardian.
Those references to "Guardians" [plural] are therefore contradicted by
his statement, "There are no other Interpreters whatsoever" (except Abdu'l-Baha and Shoghi Effendi), made in 1957 near the end of his Guardianship. The statement, "In
this Dispensation, divine guidance flows on to us in this world after
the Prophet's ascension, through first the Master, and then the
Guardians [plural]"
is not true, as there was only one Guardian, who, as shown in earlier chapters, contradicts many teachings of Baha'u'llah. In the Kitab-i-Aqdas, Baha'u'llah, the Most Great Infallibility,
specifically warns regarding His successors, "But he whose
words conflict with that which hath been sent down in My Holy Tablets
is not of Me". In passage 3, the
following is said of the "handmaidens" (a symbolic reference the
pre-existent Dependent Prophets of Baha'u'llah) who will interpret the
Holy Texts, as Prophets have done: "Create, moreover,
within it, O my God, out of the lights shed by Thy throne, handmaidens
who will intone the melodies of Thy wondrous and most sweet invention,
that they may magnify Thy name with such words as have not been heard
by any of Thy creatures, be they the inmates of Thy heaven or the
dwellers of Thine earth, nor been comprehended by any of Thy people". In passage 4, "Thou hast manifested souls that, even as the shining moon" is another symbolic reference to Dependent Prophets of Baha'u'llah, who interpret, as reflected by the words, "will speak of naught but the mysteries of Thy Cause". In passage 5, it's also said of the Living Temple (the pre-existent Dependent Prophet when on the earthly plane), "We
have caused the oceans of inner meaning and explanation to surge from
Thy heart in remembrance of Thy Lord, the God of mercy".

1056. He is the Interpreter of the Word: Divine Truth is Relative
"The Will and Testament of Bahá'u'lláh and The Will and Testament of
the Master clearly and explicitly indicate that the Interpreter of the
Word was the Centre of the Covenant and now is the Guardian. There are
no other Interpreters whatsoever and no individual may interpret. This
is strictly forbidden.
"Divine Truth is relative and that is why we are enjoined to constantly
refer the seeker to the Word itself -- and why any explanations we make
to ease the journey of the soul of any individual must be based on the
Word -- and the Word alone."

"He feels that if ... ponders more deeply about the fundamentals of
Divine Revelation, she will also come to understand the Guardianship.
Once the mind and heart have grasped the fact that God guides men
through a Mouthpiece, a human being, a Prophet, infallible and
unerring, it is only a logical projection of this acceptance to also
accept the station of 'Abdu'l-Bahá and the Guardians. The Guardians are
the evidence of the maturity of mankind in the sense that at long last
men have progressed to the point of having one world, and of needing
one world management for human affairs. In the spiritual realm they
have also reached the point where God could leave, in human hands (i.e.
the Guardians) guided directly by the Báb and Bahá'u'lláh, as the
Master states in His Will, the affairs of His Faith for this
Dispensation. This is what is meant by 'this is the day which will not
be followed by night.' In this Dispensation, divine guidance flows on
to us in this world after the Prophet's ascension, through first the
Master, and then the Guardians. If a person can accept Bahá'u'lláh's
function, it should not present any difficulty to them to also accept
what He has ordained in a Divinely guided individual in matters
pertaining to the Faith."

Since Thou hast purposed, O my God, to cause all created things to
enter into the tabernacle of Thy transcendent grace and favor, and to
waft over the entire creation the fragrances of the raiment of Thy
glorious unity, and to look upon all things with the eyes of Thy bounty
and Thy oneness, I beseech Thee, therefore, by Thy love, which Thou
hast made to be the mainspring of the revelations of Thine eternal
holiness, and the flame that gloweth within the hearts of such of Thy
creatures as yearn towards Thee, to create, this very moment, for those
of Thy people who are wholly devoted to Thee, and for such of Thy loved
ones as love Thee, out of the essence of Thy bounty and Thy generosity,
and from the inmost spirit of Thy grace and Thy glory, Thy Paradise of
transcendent holiness, and to exalt it above everything except Thee,
and to sanctify it from aught else save Thyself. Create, moreover,
within it, O my God, out of the lights shed by Thy throne, handmaidens
who will intone the melodies of Thy wondrous and most sweet invention,
that they may magnify Thy name with such words as have not been heard
by any of Thy creatures, be they the inmates of Thy heaven or the
dwellers of Thine earth, nor been comprehended by any of Thy people.
Unlock, then, the gates of this Paradise to the faces of Thy loved
ones, that haply they may enter them in Thy name, and by the power of
Thy sovereignty, that thereby the sovereign bounties vouchsafed by Thee
unto Thy chosen ones
and the transcendent gifts granted unto Thy trusted ones be perfected,
that they may extol Thy virtues with such melodies as none can either
intone or describe, and that none of Thy people may conceive the design
of appearing in the guise of any of Thy chosen ones, or of emulating
the example of Thy loved ones, and that none may fail to discern
between Thy friends and Thine enemies, or to distinguish them that are
devoted to Thee from such as stubbornly oppose Thee. Potent art Thou to
do what Thou willest, and powerful and supreme art Thou over all things.

O Thou kind Lord! From the horizon of detachment Thou hast manifested souls that, even as the shining moon,
shed radiance upon the realm of heart and soul, rid themselves from the
attributes of the world of existence and hastened forth unto the
kingdom of immortality. With a drop from the ocean of Thy loving
kindness Thou didst oft-times moisten the gardens of their hearts until
they gained incomparable freshness and beauty. The holy fragrance of Thy divine unity
was diffused far and wide, shedding its sweet savours over the entire
world, causing the regions of the earth to be redolent with perfume.
Raise up then, O Spirit of Purity, souls who, like those sanctified
beings, will become free and pure, Will adorn the world of being with a
new raiment and a wondrous robe, will seek no one else but Thee, tread
no path except the path of Thy good-pleasure and will speak of naught but the mysteries of Thy Cause.

O Living [the pre-existent Dependent Prophet when on the earthly plane] Temple!
We, verily, have made Thee a mirror unto the kingdom of names, that
Thou mayest be, amidst all mankind, a sign of My sovereignty, a herald
unto My presence, a summoner unto My beauty, and a guide unto My
straight and perspicuous Path. We have exalted Thy Name among Our
servants as a bounty from Our presence. I, verily, am the
All-Bountiful, the Ancient of Days. We have, moreover, adorned Thee
with the ornament of Our own Self,
and have imparted unto Thee Our Word, that Thou mayest ordain in this
contingent world whatsoever Thou willest and accomplish whatsoever Thou
pleasest. We have destined for Thee all the good of the heavens and of
the earth, and decreed that none may attain unto a portion thereof
unless he entereth beneath Thy shadow, as bidden by Thy Lord, the
All-Knowing, the All-Informed. We have conferred upon Thee the Staff of
authority and the Writ of judgement, that Thou mayest test the wisdom
of every command. We have caused the oceans of inner meaning and
explanation to surge from Thy heart in remembrance of Thy Lord, the God
of mercy, that Thou mayest render thanks and praise unto Him and be of
those who are truly thankful. We have singled Thee out from amongst all
Our creatures, and have appointed Thee as the Manifestation of Our own Self unto all who are in the heavens and on the earth.
