The "concourse on high" as a reference to true believers who recognise the Independent or Dependent Prophet.
1)
The "concourse on high" are true believers who recognise a future Prophet.
71. O MY FRIENDS!
Call ye to mind that covenant
ye have entered into with Me upon Mount Paran, situate within the
hallowed precincts of Zaman. I have taken to witness the concourse on
high and the dwellers in the city of eternity, yet now none do I find
faithful unto the covenant. Of a certainty pride and rebellion have
effaced it from the hearts, in such wise that no trace thereof
remaineth. Yet knowing this, I waited and disclosed it not.
-- Bahá'u'lláh, The Persian Hidden Words.
Persian no. 71
The "Covenant" mentioned in the Hidden Words is the Covenant and
Testament which was entered into by the pen of the Most High in the
hallowed precincts of the Paran of the love of God, the summit of timeless time.[10] The "dwellers in the city of eternity" and the "concourse on high" are souls who are firm in the Covenant.
('Abdu'l-Bahá, from a Tablet to an individual believer -- translated from the Persian)
18. O YE DWELLERS IN THE HIGHEST PARADISE!
Proclaim unto the children of assurance that within the realms of holiness, nigh unto the celestial paradise, a new garden hath appeared, round which circle the denizens of the realm on high and the immortal dwellers of the exalted paradise. Strive, then, that ye may attain that station, that ye may unravel the mysteries of love from its wind-flowers and learn the secret of divine and consummate wisdom from its eternal fruits. Solaced are the eyes of them that enter and abide therein!
-- Baha'u'llah, The Persian Hidden Words
2)
O Sun of this earth [the Bab, the previous Independent Prophet], eclipse thy face, for the sun of eternity [Baha'u'llah, the new Independent Prophet] hath dawned in the luminous heaven.
Glory to Thee, O God, O Thou who art God, O Thou who alone art God!
...
O concourse of lovers, give out the glad tidings with all your heart, for the time of waiting is over, and the covenant hath come, and the Beloved hath shone in wondrous beauty.
Glory to Thee, O God, O Thou who art God, O Thou who alone art God!
-- Baha'u'llah, Tablet Feast of Ridvan (a provisional translation).
3)
Should differences arise amongst you over any matter, refer it to God while the Sun [Baha'u'llah, the Independent Prophet] still
shineth above the horizon of this Heaven and, when it hath set, refer
ye to whatsoever hath been sent down by Him. This, verily, is
sufficient unto the peoples of the world.
Say: Let not your hearts be perturbed, O people, when the glory of My
Presence is withdrawn, and the ocean of My utterance is stilled. In My
presence amongst you there is a wisdom, and in My absence there is yet another, inscrutable to all but God [pre-existent],
the Incomparable, the All-Knowing. Verily, We behold you from Our realm
of glory, and shall aid whosoever will arise for the triumph of Our
Cause with the hosts of the Concourse on high and a company of Our favoured angels.
-- Baha'u'llah, The Kitab-i-Aqdas, p. 38
The Blessed Beauty, in unmistakable language, hath made this promise in
His Book: 'We behold you from Our realm of glory, and shall aid
whosoever will arise for the triumph of Our Cause with the hosts of the
Concourse on high and a company of Our favoured angels.'[1]
[1 Gleanings from the Writings of Bahá'u'lláh, LXXII ]
God be thanked, that promised aid [Abdu'l-Baha] hath been vouchsafed, as is plain for all to see, and it shineth forth as clear as the sun in the heavens.
-- Abdu'l-Baha, Selections from the Writings of Abdu'l-Baha, p. 270
4)
"The Word which the Son concealed" (i.e. the prophecy about the coming
Baha'u'llah) "hath been sent down in the form of the human temple" --
has descended to earth.
The Word which the Son concealed is made manifest. It hath been sent down in the form of the human temple in this day. Blessed be the Lord
Who is the Father! He, verily, is come unto the nations in His most
great majesty. Turn your faces towards Him, O concourse of the
righteous... This is the day whereon the Rock (Peter) crieth out and
shouteth, and celebrateth the praise of its Lord, the All-Possessing,
the Most High, saying: `Lo! The Father is come, and that which ye were
promised in the Kingdom is fulfilled!...' My body longeth for the
cross, and Mine head waiteth the thrust of the spear, in the path of
the All-Merciful, that the world may be purged from its
transgressions....
-- Bahá'u'lláh, Proclamation of Bahá'u'lláh, p. 84
5)
O thou honoured enquirer! We bear witness that thou didst firmly adhere
unto seemly patience during the days when the Pen was held back from
movement and the Tongue hesitated to set forth an explanation regarding
the wondrous sign, the Most Great Infallibility.
Thou hast asked this Wronged One to remove for thee its veils and
coverings, to elucidate its mystery and character, its state and
position, its excellence, sublimity and exaltation. By the life of God!
Were We to unveil the pearls of testimony which lie hid within the shells of the ocean of knowledge and assurance or to let the beauties of divine mystery which are hidden within the chambers of utterance in the Paradise of true understanding, step out of
their habitation, then from every direction violent commotion would
arise among the leaders of religion and thou wouldst witness the people
of God held fast in the teeth of such wolves as have denied God both in
the beginning and in the end. Therefore We restrained the Pen for a
considerable lapse of time in accordance with divine wisdom and for the
sake of protecting the faithful from those who have bartered away
heavenly blessings for disbelief and have chosen for their people the
abode of perdition.
O thou seeker who art gifted with keen insight. I swear by Him Who
attracted the Concourse on High through the potency of His most sublime
Word! Verily, the birds abiding within the domains of My Kingdom and the doves dwelling in the rose-garden of My wisdom
utter such melodies and warblings as are inscrutable to all but God,
the Lord of the kingdoms of earth and heaven; and were these melodies
to be revealed even to an extent smaller than a needle's eye, the
people of tyranny would utter such calumnies as none among former
generations hath ever uttered, and would commit such deeds as no one in
past ages and centuries hath ever committed. They have rejected the
bounty of God and His proofs and have repudiated the testimony of God and His signs.
They have gone astray and have caused the people to go astray, yet
perceive it not. They worship vain imaginings but know it not. They
have taken idle fancies for their lords and have neglected God, yet
understand not. They have abandoned the most great Ocean and are
hastening towards the pool, but comprehend not. They follow their own
idle fancies while turning aside from God, the Help in Peril, the
Self-Subsisting.
